& How to Remove a Stuck Ring
For a year before my husband proposed I made him play a game called "guess which one Dom would want." I would be reading a magazine with a ring add and would ask him if he thought I'd like that particular style. Or when we'd pass a jewelry store, we'd go in and I'd point out the ones I liked.
Yes, I am THAT girl!
Anyway, when you Google search "engagement rings," you'll find that the results are almost completely shown in white gold (or perhaps platinum). What many people do not realize is that white gold isn't naturally occurring. I did know this but didn't think much of it. All I knew was that yellow gold wasn't for me.
So when a beautiful white gold ring showed up in the little black box, I was psyched. And for 4 years I sported that ring, along with a white gold wedding band.
Nothing worked! So I popped an Aleve in the hopes that the swelling would go down and I continued on with my day all with the lingering thought of a hospital visit in the back of my mind. I tried not freak out, knowing that doing so would only make things worse.
And by 8pm I was determined to try one last trick: The dental floss trick.
It was a little gory and definitely a little painful. BUT I got it off!
I have deduced, although it isn't a sure thing, that if I take the rings in to be rhodium coated I can continue to wear the rings. After 4 years of never having been treated, I am sure it is about time.
To anyone with a similar struggle- try the dental floss trick!

(I am also excited to visit her, her husband and funny dog Milly in AZ next month!) Without further ado, here is the hilarious and "no flies on her" Krista...
Does your dog fart? Mine did, and still does, but they are a lot more pleasant now-a-days.
When my [now] husband and I first saw Milly, we knew she was the dog for us. We were at a staycation in downtown Phoenix where went to the farmers market one Saturday morning and there she was. Kids hugging her, tugging on her and she just stood there, tail wagging happy as can be!
She was ours on Sunday.
You never know what you are going to get with a rescue, but every rescue I’ve had has been perfect, and Milly is no different. We noticed fairly quickly, though, that she was a stinky dog. Everyone’s farts and excrement smell, but Milly's was out of this world! We noticed the consistency of her waste was also very off and which was extremely concerning. The rescue gave her to us with the recommendation of a grain free diet and organic if we could swing it, but preferred an organic vegan diet (she was a crunchy vegan and her dogs were vegan as well…crazy since in their natural state would hunt…to each their own though!).
We tried a variety of foods and even went to the vet who recommended the prescription only Hill’s ID food made specifically with sensitive tummies in mind, but it still didn’t work! We were getting frustrated because Milly’s tummy was so upset all the time that she would have accidents in the house and we knew she wasn’t doing it on purpose. Frustrated, sad, and sick of spending tons of money on so-called specialty foods, I decided to take it into my own hands and create a sensitive, tummy friendly homemade food.
I hadn’t really done any research, but I based it off of the healthy things I like to eat, some of the things she likes to beg for and things I knew would be good for her. And out I came with chicken thighs, brown rice, sweet potato, carrots, green beans, peas and a good amount of healthy fat (olive oil or coconut oil – whatever you have on hand– is great for their coats). You can actually substitute out the brown rice for quinoa and sometimes we do if we run out of rice, but for Milly, it makes her a bit stinky again and binds her up a bit more.
The result of my homemade concoction was a happy tummy, farts that don’t smell (seriously), solid waste, a beautiful soft coat (we get compliments all the time!) and a finally healthy and happy dog! And the other great thing is that it takes me not even an hour to cook, it costs under around $20 and the recipe below lasts about a month. The downside is that this recipe is so good, that sometimes it binds her up too much, so we decided that we would mix the prescription food with the homemade food and we ended up with a perfect balance. All in all, the total amount we now spend on food is down to +/-$50 a month. You could spend more or less depending on the size of your dog and the recommended amount of food per day based on their size. Milly is about 50lbs and the ID food says about 3 cups of food a day, so she gets a majority of the food for breakfast (a scoop of dry food and about a cup of homemade) and the rest at night (about half a scoop of dry food and ¾ cup homemade.
When we told the vet about this recipe and how we are feeding her, she got wide eyed and said, “good mommy!” It made me feel amazing that the vet approved the recipe and made me feel like a great dog mom!
If your dog is having tummy troubles, consider this recipe and even run it by your vet. There are some foods that dogs are allergic too so make sure before adding anything that you research those foods. It’s a quick, easy and inexpensive way to help out your fur baby!
· 4 cups brown rice
· 9-10 cups water (2 cups of water for every cup of brown rice and then some to really soften the rice and veggies up)
· +/- 3 lbs chicken thighs, cut into small bites (1/4 in or square or so)
· 5 carrots, rinsed, not peeled and cut into rounds or smaller
· 2-3 big sweet potatoes, rinsed, not peeled and cut into around the same size as the chicken or smaller
· 1 bag frozen French style green beans (I like these because they are cut up into small pieces already and sometimes when I get the normal sized frozen beans, Milly will pick them out)
· ½ -1 bag frozen peas (I like the baby peas by Birdseye because you can get them salt free – yes there is salt in some frozen foods! And Milly loves peas!)
· ¼ - ½ cup olive oil or heathy oil like coconut (this is great for her coat but also helps keep the food from not sticking together that much)
Add the ingredients to the pot in the following order: rice, water, carrot, sweet potato, green beans, peas and finally olive oil. I do this because it make sure the rice cooks down, the chicken gets boiled thoroughly and then the harder veggies get soft. Bring everything to a boil, stir, cover and reduce heat to simmer. Stir occasionally. When most of the water is absorbed, grab a potato masher and mash everything together. This will break up some of the chicken chunks, the carrots and the sweet potato. I like to do this because it helps make the mixture a little more solid too.
Once it cools a little, I bag it into four 1 gallon zip lock freezer bags. I seal the bags, but let them stay on the counter until they are room temp (this prevents bacteria from forming). Then you are ready to go!
