So when I came across the Pin that claimed to do the same thing homeopathically, I just had to try it. I love home remedies! (Ahem, putting a piece of endometrial lining from an egg on a pimple dries that baby right up!)
While perusing the grocery store during my weekly shopping trip, I stopped in the baking aisle and picked up a box of Knox unflavored gelatin. When I got home, I whipped up a concoction similar to that in the Pin above (I changed the amount of milk added after reading comments about the consistency).
2 tsp. milk (fat content does not matter)
1 tsp. unflavored gelatin
Microwave for about 6 seconds, mix, and quickly apply to the desired areas. I applied it to my chin and nose which are the most common places for blackheads to develop.
My mixture did not resemble that of the pin above. In fact, it was yellowy, gooey and sticky rather than white and pastey. Not to mention, it smelled. Really bad.
I left the concoction on my face for about 10 minutes until it became tight and dry. Then I peeled it off- such a great feeling!
What came off certainly didn't look like the pictures from the Pin but I can't be certain of the reason. It worked better on my nose than on my chin. Regardless, it did leave my skin feeling really soft and is something I would consider doing all over my face next time for this reason.
Ultimately, Mario Badescu won the Pinterest battle. Their Silver Powder unclogs pores better than the home remedy of gelatin and milk. It smells a hell of a lot better too!
