things they don't tell you...
I'll say what you're thinking on all things family, friends, food, fitness & fashion.
It has been months since last linked up with the fabulous ladies, Jess and Jill, over at The Fit Switch and JillConyers.com. The main reason is that I am not a fitness professional and have been totally off my game. I am not ashamed, I hit the gym when I make time. Sometimes, I'd rather hang with my family.
If you read last week's post, you know how uninspired I have been. It has affected all aspects of my life. Jill and Jess have given me an opportunity to bounce back, even if for only a single post!
Again, I AM NOT A FITNESS PROFESSIONAL, so I do not have 5 people I would like to work out with. I do, however, have a whole slew of people I would like to work with professionally and philanthropically! Without further ado, here are the 5 people I'd like to work with:
Jessica Alba is someone I look up to. I am sure she has her quirks (like maybe she has really stinky feet? Or webbed fingers?).
She is a busy mother of two who began a company based on the idea that "if you want something done right, do it yourself." She is hands-on, completely involved in what goes on in her company. She believes in what she is doing. I am sure there is a bit of a profit in it for her, but she started this company with well-being of her children in mind.
Check out the Business Insider Tour of the Santa Monica office. Girlfriend has style! Simple and appealing.
Business aside, this woman portrays herself as having her ish together. Whether this is true or not, I don't really care. I have enough trouble LOOKING like I have my life together!
So, Jess, I am here when you want me. Really, hire me. It would be an honor to work with you!
Many of the families of my students receive food assistance (SNAP) and I watch these kids use this money to buy junky, carb and sugar-filled foods on a daily basis. If kids choose to purchase these foods on their own, than so be it- this is not to say I don't think that advertisers and junk food companies don't have a responsibility of their own. But it is not the job of the schools to provide such foods.
Without her even knowing it, I will tell you that the staff at my school is already working with Mrs. Obama. We are not fortunate enough to have a cafeteria but receive box lunches from the school department on a daily basis. We teach classes on healthy living in order to expand student understanding of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. We cook, using limited supplies including hot plates, electric burners, and crock pots. We are creating a cookbook to take home so that students can recreate healthier meals in their own kitchens. One step at a time.
Michelle, the invite is always open. Tell your people to contact my people.
Everyone wants to be the recipient of "Oprah's Favorite Things," including me. But I'd be happy just to have the opportunity to work with her on one of her many charities.
With a focus on philanthropy, volunteerism, and making a difference in the world, Oprah Winfrey demonstrates how much change one individual can affect. Channeling a significant portion of her income into charitable initiatives, Ms. Winfrey sets an example many can follow.
As a teacher who works directly with students affected by all of these issues, I am proud of Ellen for her efforts. Last December, my work/school community lost a student to suicide. This memory will remain with me for a lifetime.
Ellen is a role model for all. She exudes confidence. She encourages self-acceptance.
In a classroom full of sexually confused, racially blended, educationally/economically disadvantaged students, Ellen degeneres could make each one feel understood and accepted
I racked my brain trying to come up with a 5th inspirational person. I decided to quit while I was confident. I did not intentionally choose only women as the most inspirational people, it just happened that way.
I feel that the women above have the qualities in a person that I want my daughter to have which happen to be the same qualities that my mother taught me.
Thanks again to the lovely blogging communities to which I belong as well as to my fabulous loyal readers. You are the reason I put fingers to keyboard when I don't feel up to the task.
